About 7 p.m., someone called police claiming that he had a gun and had taken hostages in the university’s Christopher Center for Library and Information Services, according to a statement from Valparaiso police.

Police evacuated and searched the library but responders found nothing during a full sweep of the library, police said.

Authorities tracked down Valparaiso student Michael Clemens in nearby Gellersen Hall, and he later admitted to phoning in the fake threat, police said.

Clemens, a 20-year-old from Chesterton, faces felony counts of intimidation and false reporting causing an evacuation, police said. He remains held at the Porter County Jail.
