Aurora teen facing felony weapons charges

(AURORA) A 17-year-old Aurora boy is facing felony weapons charges in connection with two incidents in the western suburb over the last week.

The teen, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possession of a stolen firearm, according to a statement from Aurora police.

He was taken into custody about 5 p.m. Monday when officers responded to a call of shots fired at Galena and Harrison and stopped an SUV that fit the description of the vehicle involved, police said.

A 17-year-old in the white Chevrolet Trailblazer had fired a BB gun, police said. No one was hurt. Three other teens in the SUV were released.

Both a handgun and two BB guns were found in the Trailblazer. The handgun had been reported stolen in a home burglary in the 2300 block of Goldenrod Court on June 25, police said.

The same teen is also accused of firing a weapon a few minutes before 8 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of Foran Lane, police said. No one was injured in that shooting.

The same Trailblazer was thought to have been involved in an aggravated assault about an hour earlier Monday in the 600 block of North Elmwood, police said. One of the teens flashed a gun and yelled gang slogans at a group standing in a yard. No charges have been filed in that incident, which remains under investigation.

The teen is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center in St. Charles, police said.

Anyone who may have information is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
