UPDATE: Police ID man who killed girlfriend and self in Arlington Heights hotel

(ARLINGTON HEIGHTS) Police have identified the man who killed his girlfriend before fatally shooting himself at an Arlington Heights motel Thursday afternoon as a 32-year-old former Carol Stream resident.

Officers were called about 1 p.m. Thursday to the hotel at 441 W. Algonquin Rd. after cleaning staff entered the locked room and found “a large amount of blood” on the floor, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police.

Officers arrived to find a man and woman both dead of multiple stab wounds and lacerations caused by a knife, police said. The couple had a “dating relationship,” according to police.

The woman was identified last week as Cecilia Perez, 41, of the 1600 block of Felten Road in Aurora, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

On Monday, police identified the offender: Luis Antonio Nonato Velasquez, 32, with a last known address in Carol Stream.

Police said the incident was a murder-suicide in which Velasquez killed Perez and then took his own life.
