(MAYWOOD) Bond was set at $100,000 on Thursday for a 70-year-old west suburban man accused of training dogs for fighting in his Maywood home.

Paul Wade, of the 1900 block of South 2nd Avenue, was charged with two counts of felony dog fighting, according to a statement from Chicago Police. He was also charged with six misdemeanors each of violating animal owner duties and cruelty to animals.

Ward was arrested about 10 a.m. Wednesday after authorities in a joint investigation by the Cook County sheriff’s office and the Chicago Police Animal Crimes Unit searched his house, police said.

Officers found six underweight dogs with scarring that pointed to dog fighting, police said. Also, “various forms of dog fighting equipment” and two guns were found in the home.

The dogs were taken to Chicago’s Animal Care and Control Department, police said.

Ward, who also faces counts of possession of a controlled substance and having a firearm and ammunition without a valid FOID card, was ordered held on a $100,000 bond by a judge on Thursday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is next scheduled to appear in court July 22.
