Motorcyclist seriously injured in Hammond hit-and-run

(HAMMOND, Ind.) A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash late Sunday near a casino in northwest Indiana.

The 23-year-old motorcyclist was southbound on Indianapolis Boulevard near Casino Center Drive in Hammond at 11:24 p.m. when a gray four-door 2005 Toyota made an improper left turn in front of the bike, according to Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda.

The motorcyclist struck the car on the passenger side and was ejected, Hoyda said. The Toyota drove away.

The motorcyclist, a Highland, Ind. man, was flown to an Illinois hospital with serious injuries, Hoyda said.

Police believe the Toyota may have Illinois license plate E128334 and the driver may be from south suburban Lansing. The vehicle might have a broken wear window.

Anyone with information should call Hammond police Sgt. Tracy Laurinec at (219) 852-2942.
