(MAINE TWP.) Two people were dead and one critically injured at the scene of a HazMat situation Thursday afternoon in a home near northwest suburban Des Plaines.
Emergency crews were called to a home on the 9400 block of Harrison Street in Maine Township at about 3:30 p.m., according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
Two males whose ages were not immediately available were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A woman whose age was not available was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition, according to a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
Four Cook County sheriff’s deputies suffered minor injuries and were being treated as a precaution after entering the home, according to the spokeswoman. They were released from the hospital in the evening.
The North Maine Fire Protection District responded to the incident, but was not available for comment.
