Fox Lake Search Continues, Tributes Begin to Come IN

A day after the murder of a Fox Lake police officer, three suspects remain on the loose. Investigators have only a vague description of them based on what Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz told dispatch before he was shot during a foot pursuit. He was chasing two white males and one black male.

There is a 2-mile search radius near the crime scene around Route 12 and Rollins Road and Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Commander George Filenko says this afternoon they’re doing a secondary review of that crime scene.

“Yesterday we were fighting lighting conditions and some of the conditions were getting pretty poor near the end of the day,” Filenko said. “That just shows you the attention to detail that the evidence technicians are giving to this. You’ve got to imagine that this is an area with a lot of foliage around it so they are turning over every leaf and blade of grass to see if there is anything else out there that they may have missed.”

Several schools remained closed Wednesday. Residents who see anything suspicious are asked to call Fox Lake Police.

Meanwhile, tributes are pouring in for the slain officer. Before a moment of silence on at the state Capitol in Springfield, the local State Rep. Barbara Wheeler (R-Crystal Lake) spoke on the House Floor…

“The tragic event has devastated one of our close communities,” Wheeler said. “It has closed the schools and many businesses while the man hunt continues for the murders of ‘G.I. Joe. I ask for your prayers not only for the fallen [Lt. Gliniewicz] and his family but the entire community that’s affected by this fatal event.”

Gliniewicz’s nickname was ‘G.I. Joe.’

U.S. Rep. Bob Dold (R-Kenilworth), who also represents the area, says he was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Gliniewicz who Dold said was always visible and active in the community.
