Dolton Church Offers Helping Hand

(CHICAGO) As we get closer to Thanksgiving, there are many churches and other groups giving families a helping hand.

One of those groups making a difference is the New Zion Covenant Church of Dolton with their Joseph Storehouse – which plans on hosting their 10th annual Thanksgiving Day Food Giveaway today. But it’s nothing new compared to their weekly giveaways says Bishop Lance Davis.

“Everyone in the line is going to receive enough groceries to prepare not only one but perhaps two thanksgiving meals, but every Saturday we have to pick up 10 1/2 to 13 tons of food for every Saturday giveaway,” Davis said.

Over the course of a year the Joseph Storehouse serves over 60,000 individuals. Davis says they expect over 1,500 people Saturday. The giveaway will be held from 10a.m. to 1 p.m. at the rear of the church at 14200 Chicago Rd in Dolton.

Davis says they could use volunteers to help folks carry items to their vehicles. Those wishing to help can call 708 849-6904. Food donations are also accepted at the church or the Dolton post office.
