(CHICAGO) A 54-year-old northwest Indiana woman died after jumping into the Calumet River from the Chicago Skyway Monday afternoon on the South Side.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Chicago Police responded to the river near the 3100 block of East 98th Street a few minutes after 1 p.m. after someone jumped into the river from the Skyway, authorities said.

Karen Lubas was pulled from the river and taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Lubas lived in Whiting, Indiana.

The incident appeared to be an “intentional act,” a Chicago Fire Department official said. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
