Man charged with stabbing ex-girlfriend during domestic dispute in Aurora

(AURORA) A man has been charged with attempted murder for stabbing his ex-girlfriend during a domestic dispute Saturday afternoon in west suburban Aurora.

Steven J. Karpinski, 40, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, interfering with the reporting of domestic battery, and two counts of domestic battery, according to Aurora police.

Karpinski stabbed a 44-year-old woman–with whom he had once had a relationship–in a townhome in the 2500 block of Hillsboro Boulevard about 3:20 p.m., police said. He then took off in his pickup and was arrested about 11:40 a.m. Sunday near Normantown Road and Schoger Drive in Aurora.

The woman was stabbed in the neck and is undergoing treatment at an Aurora hospital, police said. The wound is not thought to be life-threatening.

Police said Karpinski and the woman had once been in a relationship.

Karpinski, of the 1700 block of Denison Road in Naperville, is being held at the Will County Correctional Center in Joliet.
