(CHICAGO) An elderly man was killed and four other people were injured in a 13-vehicle crash on the Eisenhower Expressway early Saturday, police said.

The chain-reaction crash likely was caused by black ice on the outbound lanes of I-290 near Central about 12:40 a.m., according to Illinois State Police.

A 71-year-old man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he later died, state police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the fatality.

Two more people injured in the pileup were taken to Loyola and two others to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, state police said. Their injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.

Outbound lanes were expected to be closed between Laramie and Central until 8 a.m. as crews clear the scene.
