Bridge Inspections on Interstate 80 over the Des Plaines River

By Jen DeSalvo, WLS-AM 890 Traffic and Transportation

(CHICAGO) Lane restrictions begin Monday, April 25 on Interstate 80 over the Des Plaines River, in Joliet for required bridge inspections. The construction zone begins two miles east of Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7), or between Raynor and Chicago Ave.

Beginning with closures on the westbound side, the Illinois Department of Transportation reports that at least two lanes will remain open to traffic during the duration of the project. When the westbound lanes are completed, the work will move to the eastbound lanes of I-80.

The project is expected to be completed on May 7.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, as there will be flaggers, construction workers and a reduced speed limit.
