Empty car recovered from Zion lake

(ZION) An empty car was recovered from a lake early Sunday in north suburban Zion.

Authorities responded to a call of a car in the water about 25 feet from the shore just after 1 a.m. at the lake in Horizon Village Park near Kenosha road and Highlands Drive, according to the Zion Fire and Rescue Department.

One person was also seen swimming away from the car, fire officials said.

Divers did not find anyone inside or near the vehicle, fire officials said. After 90 minutes of searching, the window for a viable rescue during a nighttime dive, the crews focused on getting the car out of the water.

Crews remained on the scene until about 4:30 a.m. Illinois State police are investigating the incident.
