(ROLLING MEADOWS) Two people were killed in a crash involving a vehicle traveling the wrong way early Tuesday in northwest suburban Rolling Meadows, police said.

The crash happened at 3:56 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Route 53 just south of Euclid Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

Two people were killed in the crash, but additional information was not immediately available, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatalities.

As of about 5:30 a.m., northbound traffic was being detoured off Route 53 at Kirchoff Road, police said.
