Rahm: Police Dropped Ball Regarding Rhymefest

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) Mayor Emanuel says there will be discipline for the police officer who allegedly disrespected Chicago rapper and songwriter Rhymefest as he was trying to report getting robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning.

At the police station in Bronzeville, Rhymefest shot video of himself trying to report getting robbed with a gun to his head and the exchange on the video between him and the officer on duty is intense.

No excuse, says the mayor.

“It’s not even in training but it’s in common decency,” Emanuel said. “He is the victim of a crime [and] therefore deserves a different type of treatment, both as a citizen of the City of Chicago and somebody who’s turned to the police for help. That’s the fundamental. If they’re turning to you for help your attitude should be more receptive than he’s been treated.”

Rhymefest says he was treated “disgustingly” and has written a song about it.
