Chicago’s Parthenon Restaurant Closes, A Greektown Staple Is Now Gone

After The Parthenon invented saganaki, the famous flaming cheese dish, Chicago’s beloved Greek restaurant thought they needed a catch phrase to go along with it. It took them more than a few tries to come up with the perfect expression.

(CHICAGO) One of the oldest restaurants in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood closed after 48 years of business. The Parthenon, known widely as the first eatery to serve flaming saganaki, alerted the neighborhood of their quick departure with a posted sign outside the closed doors. “After over 48 years in business we are sad to inform you we are permanently closed,” the sign read. According to multiple reports, the restaurant will be replaced by a sports bar.
