Police: Realtor swiped jewelry from Wheaton home she was showing

Jamie Detwiler | DuPage County sheriff’s office(WHEATON) A northwest suburban realtor stole jewelry from homes she was showing to prospective buyers in Palatine and Wheaton, authorities allege.

Jamie Detwiler, 38, faces felony counts of residential burglary and theft, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

A Wheaton resident called police Oct. 1 saying a gold necklace with a diamond pendant had disappeared from her home after Detwiler showed the house on Sept. 29, prosecutors said.

Officers started performing surveillance Detwiler, who was seen going into a Palatine home Oct. 7 and walking out five minutes later with ten pieces of gold jewelry, prosecutors said. She was stopped and arrested at the scene.

“People count on realtors to help them through this stressful time, not to rummage through their home in search of valuables,” state’s attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement.

Detwiler, of the 100 block of Brewster Avenue in Bloomingdale, was released from jail Friday on electronic monitoring after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled for arraignment Dec. 13.
