Bucket Boys Compromise At City Hall

(CHICAGO)  At Chicago City Hall, there appears to be compromise to avoid banning the noisiest street performers like the bucket boys from Michigan Ave.

Downtown Alderman Brendan Reilly (42nd) wanted to banish the bucket boys to the subways, but when critics cried foul he came up with this.

“Instead, we’re allowing street performances to occur everyday of the work week but we’re restricting the hours to the lunch hour rush between 11a.m. and 1 p.m. and the evening rush hour 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. These are the times of the day when most people are out on the streets [anyway] whether they are getting lunch or headed to a train,” Reilly said. “That’s actually the most lucrative time of day for street performers to make their money. So we’re protecting their pocketbooks while also trying to create a better quality of life for office workers and residents Downtown.”

And he’s still trying to let street performers into CTA stations and the parks.
