Cook Co. Sheriff Takes Over Search for Missing Teen

By Christopher Michael, WLS-AN News.

(MELROSE PARK) — While it seemed still a bit cool to do it, three teenagers thought it was time to take a dip in the Des Plaines River.  A jump from a nearby railroad crossing bridge seemed just right.  And for two of them it was.

But, they turned and saw their third friend struggling, then he went under, and was not seen again.

Police were called immediately to the area just southeast of First and North avenues in Melrose Park.  No luck.  Yesterday afternoon, the Cook County Sheriffs office took charge in looking for the missing boy’s body, with Sheriff Tom Dart saying that helicopters and diving teams will continue to search as long as necessary.
