Deal Reached in VW Diesel Emissions Scandal

(CHICAGO)  Volkswagen admitted in late 2015 to installing a defeat device in millions of vehicles to cheat on emissions tests.

Now, the German automaker says U.S. environmental regulators have agreed to a plan for Volkswagen to fix or buy back about half of the diesel cars involved in the scandal.

Some 326,000 first generation “Clean Diesel” cars, including the Jetta, Golf, Beetle, and Audi A3 were sold between 2009 and 2014.

Under the plan, Volkswagen owners can either choose to have the emissions systems repaired for free or have the company buy back the vehicles.

Meantime, Germany has ordered VW to recall thousands of Porsche Cayenne SUVs, in Europe, over cheating concerns.
