Wrigleyville Taco Bell set to close

By John Dempsey

(CHICAGO)  A longtime mainstay of the Wrigleyville neighborhood is going to be closing.   Crain’s Chicago Business broke the story that the Taco Bell near Wrigley Field, at 1111 W. Addison, will be shutting down next year after a development company bought the property.

On social media a lot of neighbors and Cub fans are blasting the move, including C.J. Black, who told “The Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show” on WLS that the restaurant should stay right where it is.

“There is something to be said for this Taco Bell that we all have stories about and it’s been very convenient for all of us and provided us cheap and tasty food in our times of need.   I just think it’s a good way of getting people together to express that feeling.”

Black also says there have been many times he has patronized the Taco Bell rather than pay high prices for food in Wrigley Field.

“I love being in Wrigley but I don’t always love the Wrigley prices.  Sometimes you hold off from eating until you get outside and you don’t have to pay ten dollars for nachos.   You go to your Taco Bell.”

Crain’s says Cook County property records show West Addison Development paid $8.9 million in June for the property where the Taco Bell is located.   Crain’s says the developer is planning a three-story retail and restaurant complex on the property.

Black says he and other Taco Bell supporters are planning a protest at the restaurant Saturday August 26th from 1-3 p.m.
