Hobo Gang Boss Sentenced

(CHICAGO) — A judge has sentenced a boss of the Hobos street gang to 40 years in prison.

At Thursday’s sentencing, U.S. District Judge John Tharp said Gregory “Bowlegs” Chester’s life of gang banging was “to advance the cause of evil.” He told the court that he had considered a life sentence, which is what prosecutors sought, but decided against it saying Chester hadn’t physically pulled the trigger in any of the multiple homicides thought to have been carried out by the gang.

Jurors convicted the 40-year-old in January of a conspiracy that included multiple homicides. Chester’s attorney had sought a 20-year sentence for their client.

Four other reputed Hobos gang leaders were convicted with Chester. They are scheduled to be sentenced Friday.
