(SPRINGFIELD, Il) — Two more Illinois politicians are calling it quits.

State Sen. Bill Haine (D-Alton), who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma says he will not be seeking re-election. His announcement was expected.

Not expected was the announcement from State Rep. Steven Andersson (R-Geneva) who says he will step down at the end of his term rather than run for re-election in 2018. He was one of a dozen Republican lawmakers to break ranks with his party and vote for the Illinois Budget and tax hike in July. In making his announcement, Andersson cited an increasingly political and partisan atmosphere in Springfield.

There have been a number of lawmakers either resigning or not seeking re-election, all making the decision after the start of the state’s fiscal year, July 1.
