Emanuel: ‘It’s time to close funding gap.’

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) The Illinois House is back in session today and Speaker Mike Madigan is expected to try to override Gov Rauner’s school aid veto.

Madigan needs 71 votes including 4 Republicans and he has until August 29th to get them.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a message for Governor Bruce Rauner, “The governor always complains that things are broken in Illinois. I would just like to remind him here in Chicago our kids are breaking records. They’re breaking academic records. It’s time for Springfield to close the funding gap.”

But if Madigan and Emanuel fail, Rauner says he’s willing to compromise to get a deal. Private school tuition tax credits may be part of that compromise.
