(CHICAGO) The Salvation Army is putting out a call for volunteers to travel from the Chicago area to Florida to help victims of Hurricane Irma.

Major David Dahlberg is the Director of Emergency Disaster Services for the Salvation Army Chicago Metropolitan Division.    He told “The Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show” that the group held a volunteer training session for about 18 people this past Saturday at the group’s Elk Grove Village Emergency Disaster Training Center.

“We require that all of our volunteers are appropriately trained, especially in these environments.   We have to make sure they’re safe and that as we approach the needs of people that we’re managing that in a very effective way.”

Dahlberg says two more such sessions will be held this week, on Tuesday Sept. 12 from noon to 3 p.m., and on Saturday Sept. 16 from 8 a. m. to 5 p.m., at the Elk Grove Village Center at 1000 Pratt Blvd.
