More stories of harassment in Springfield surface

(SPRINGFIELD, IL)  Springfield lobbyist Denise Rotheimer accusing State Senator Ira Silverstein (D-Chicago) of being a harasser wasn’t the only accusation at Tuesday’s House hearing on sexual harassment.

Silverstein became the first legislator to be accused by name, but the organizer of the Springfield letter Katelyn Duncan testified about other “horrifying” stories.

“One woman described a terrifying incident when a legislator followed her to a hotel room, pinned her against the wall and forced himself on her after she said no,” said Duncan,”A former lobbyist described meeting up with her colleagues and other elected officials when another lobbyist drunkenly walked up and said ‘I’ve always wondered if you spit or swallow.’ And when a legislator was harassing me on a campaign, I tried to report it to management. I was fired immediately for describing his behavior as inappropriate and asking him to stop.”

Duncan said about 600 men and women have now signed the Springfield letter.
