(CHICAGO) Chris Kennedy has picked up the endorsement of Lori Lightfoot, the highly-regarded Police Board president who has been crusading for Chicago police reform.

Lori Lightfoot says she likes Chris Kennedy because he’s “fearless” against the Springfield establishment.

“Somebody who’s not afraid to take on sacred cows and the status quo,” said Lightfoot, “I just think that Chris and Ra Joy offer a vision for our state that is different, refreshing and desparately needed.”

And Kennedy says Lightfoot’s counsel on community policing is a big plus for his campaign, noting “Just in Austin last night, I was with a block club leader walking around. She knew the police officers there intimately. They felt comfortable with her, she felt comfortable with them and that’s the model I think that Lori champions, the idea that we all work together.”

Kennedy is pledging to “end the slaughter” of street violence.
