Zopp expected to get nod for Police Board

(CHICAGO)   A delayed vote on Mayor Emanuel’s appointment of his former deputy mayor Andrea Zopp to be a member of the Police Board is expected this morning in the City Council Public Safety Committee.

This vote got delayed Friday after the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights expressed doubt about Zopp’s independence because she’s a mayoral insider.

But City Council Public Safety Committee chairman Ald. Ariel Raboryras said she’s got the credentials for the job, “As you probably know, she put a police officer in jail when she worked as the U.S. Attorney’s office.”

More recently, Rahm promoted Zopp from deputy mayor to be President & CEO of World Business Chicago. That job pays $375,000 a year.
