CDC: Legionaires found at Quincy Veterans Home

(QUINCY, IL) Testing of water for Legionaires Disease by the Centers for Disease Control at the troubled Quincy Veterans Home has turned up another positive hit.

CDC testing found Legionaries in a shower head. A filter was installed and is presumably protecting the vets. Forty-seven other samples tested negative.

Governor Rauner said this week his public health team is on the case and is being very aggressive, “Taking every appropriate step to keep those veterans safe and healthy. The fact is in Illinois Legionella bacteria are common thruout the water supplies and it’s something we need to stay vigilant about. We are more aware of it in the Quincy Veterans Home because of an outbreak and now we test constantly.”

But Rauner’s critics have complained he didn’t quickly enough to get the CDC on the case. Six cases of Legionaries have turned up this year.
