(CHICAGO) The opportunity for Cook County property taxpayers to pre-pay their first installment has been wildly successful.
Maria Pappas, the Cook County Treasurer, tells me 47,000 property taxpayers have pre-paid $312 million this month so that they’re not limited to a $10,000 deduction next year under the new federal tax code.
“So what this is telling us is that the trend is that people no longer want to deal with the mail. They don’t want to talk to anybody. They don’t want to walk into a bank.”
