Hearing produces issues with Textalyzer

(CHICAGO)  At City Hall, a hearing on a device called a Textalyzer to detect distracted drivers using their cellphones produced testimony about a problem with the device.

Ex-cop now Alderman Chris Talliaferro said the Textalyer really can’t tell who’s driving, “Often you see a lot of drivers hand their cellphones to the backseat to a child to watch a video. I’ve seen that. I’ve done that. But it would in that device at the time of an accident, it would look like the driver was looking at that video.”

And the ACLU has argued that without a warrant, there’s a privacy problem with the textalyzer. But the textalyer folks said they will  change the device to whatever specification the law ultimately demands.
