Duckworth not buying into “symbolic gestures” at SOTU

(CHICAGO) There are several symbolic gestures planned for tonight’s State of the Union Address, but Senator Tammy Duckworth is NOT buying into them.

Chicago reps Jan Schakowski, Bobby Rush and Danny Davis are boycotting the State of the Union, but Duckworth isn’t, stating “For me, what is right for me personally and for the entire State of Illinois is for me to go and listen to the president of our nation.”

Nor is she wearing black to symbolize the Me Too movement, adding “I would rather people focus on my words and my actions than what I am wearing. I actually finally got some maternity clothes out and so I will be wearing maybe blue and gray, the most comfortable maternity clothes that I have because I will be there a very long time tonight and who knows how long President Trump is gonna speak for.”

But Duckworth says it is “wonderful” that Suburban Congressmen Schneider and Hultgren plan to sit next to each other in a gesture of bi-partisanship.
