Judge: Serial Stowaway to Remain In Jail

By Nick Gale, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) — A Cook County judge ruled Wednesday that 66-year-old Marilyn Hartman will remain in jail for now, after her defense attorney requested sending her to a shelter for former inmates.

Hartman was arrested January 28 at O’Hare, after sneaking past security for the second time in two weeks. Hartman has been arrested numerous times over the past couple of years for trespassing at airports, boarding planes, and in some cases successfully making it to a destination.

On Wednesday Hartman’s public defender argued she doesn’t belong in jail because she is not a danger to society. But the judge in the case says Hartman broke her promise to stay away from airports. Days before her most recent arrest, Hartman appeared before the same judge for trespassing at O’Hare and was released.

She has been indicted on felony charges and appears again in court on February 21.
