(CHICAGO)  Mayor Emanuel and Governor Rauner appeared together this morning for a ribbon cutting for AT&T’s renovated Call Center on the North Side. The mayor used the occasion to put the governor on the spot on the issue of gun control.

Rahm says he took the occasion to give Rauner a copy of the letter signed by him and the 50 aldermen calling on Rauner to sign the gun dealer licensing bill on his desk, “He can run but he can’t hide. He has to address this issue and tell people where he’s gonna stand, not when it’s politically convenient, but actually when it’s important and essential for all of us.”

Rauner told reporters what he’s for, but he didn’t include gun dealer licensing bill, “I have been crystal clear. I support bi-partisan reforms to keep our citizens safer and we need to do this on a comprehensive basis. Real reform that will really change the system, keep our students safer in our schools, ban bump stocks, support law enforcement and do a better job of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill.”
