Friday Court Appearance for Suspect in Police Commander’s Death

(CHICAGO) The man accused of killing Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer will make another court appearance on Friday.

Shomari Legghette is charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated use of a weapon by a felon and drug charges.

He is accused of shooting Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer six times, outside of the Thompson Center, last month while Bauer was trying to hold him for questioning by tactical officers conducting a drug investigation.

Legghette’s Wednesday court appearance was brief.  He was heavily guarded and that will likely be the case on Friday when he, next, appears before a judge.  That is when an announcement of an indictment is expected.
