Ives, Biss Talk Property Taxes

(CHICAGO) — The Republican gubernatorial challenger and one of the Democrats vying for the governor’s office seem to agree on one thing. Property taxes are too high.

State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) and State Sen. Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) both tell Big John and Ramblin’ Ray on WLS that property taxes are an issue that should be addressed.

To get a handle on things, Ives says lawmakers must address over spending and the need for public pension reform.

“Highest property taxes, highest tax burden overall when you look at cost of living in the entire United States. Our spending is out of control and it starts with our pension problem,” Ives said.

Biss says the state needs a fully functioning budget and says the way property taxes are assessed is a problem.

“We just need lower property taxes on average …our property tax assessment system is completely broken,” Biss said.

Polls have shown Ives gaining on Gov. Bruce Rauner while Biss has been polling second behind billionaire businessman J.B. Pritzker.
