Aurora Man’s Sentence Cut by Decades

By Jennifer Keiper, WLS-AM 890 News

(AURORA, IL) Zachary Reyes of Aurora was 16 when, in 2009, shots were fired at a car with three people inside.  He was tried as an adult for the death of East Aurora Soccer player Jason Ventura, 17, and sentenced to nearly 100 years in prison.

Reyes appealed saying his sentence was unconstitutional.  The Illinois Supreme court ordered a new sentencing hearing  and told the lower court to consider that Reyes was only 16 at the time of the shooting.

Zachary Reyes, who is now 24, has been resentenced to 66-years in prison.
