(CHICAGO)  The Chicago Police Superintendent that Mayor Rahm Emanuel fired – Garry McCarthy – has officially declared his candidacy for mayor in an on-line video.

McCarthy believes the mayor threw him under the bus to save his skin after the video of the Laquann McDonald killing by police was released.

Now, McCarthy’s coming after the mayor’s job, saying “I know first-hand, just how proud and strong and welcoming Chicagoans really are.  That’s why it’s so painful to see that under this mayor we’re awash with higher taxes, corruption, school closings and violent crime. We don’t have to live like this. Chicago doesn’t have to live like this.”

McCarthy’s well positioned to talk about crime-fighting, but it remains to be seen how effective he could be guiding the Chicago Public Schools or city finances.
