“Unprecedented” art installation coming to Riverwalk

(CHICAGO)  The big Chicago Riverwalk project called Art on the Mart has been approved by a city council committee and a date has been announced for when the attraction will begin.

Beginning in October for two hours a night, 34 projectors will display local and internationally-commissioned art on the massive facade of the Merchandise Mart.

Mayor Emanuel’s cultural affairs commissioner Mark Kelly says it’ll be as popular as the Bean, noting “The art installation is unprecedented in the world. To our knowlege there is no mapping video projection of this size and scope.”

No branding allowed and the Mart is picking up the $8M tab as a gift to the city.  The local alderman Brendan Reilly says it’ll be “a cool destination.”
