Willis: Gun restraining order could prevent tragedies

(SPRINGFIELD) An Illinois House Committee has unanimously recommended a new tool to get guns out of the hands of people who obviously shouldn’t have them.

It’s called a Firearm Restraining Order. State Representative Kathleen Willis told the committee it allows a family member to ask a judge to take away the guns of the mentally ill, or even this.

“Your wife filed for divorce and you lost your job and your dog got run over by a truck all in the same week, Willis said, “You probably shouldn’t have a gun on your night stand that night when you’re feeling deep and depressed.”

She says five states have this and about 20 lives have been saved.
