Pro-police alderman trying to undermine candidate for mayor

(CHICAGO) In the race for mayor,  Alderman Nick Sposato has a proposal that looks like a political shot at candidate Lori Lightfoot.

Lori Lightfoot until recently was Police Board President. Sposato has always thought she’s anti-police and now he’s proposing that members of city boards and commissions be prohibited from running for city office for two years after they leave.

Sposato: You know who it’s about.

Reporter: So it’s about Lori Lightfoot?

Sposato: You can say whatever you want.

Reporter: So, it’s about Lori Lightfoot?

Sposato: You can say whatever you want. I just think it’s wrong that somebody gets in office and they use this office as a platform to immediately decide they want to run for something, they should step down plain and simple.”

Sposato tried out his idea in the confirmation hearing for Paula Wolff to be a member of the Police Board and with a chuckle she was more than happy to take the pledge not to run for two years.
