Rauner and Emanuel laud each other at U of I announcement

(CHICAGO) Governor Rauner, Mayor Emanuel and other dignitaries gathered in the South Loop to formally announce the new University of Illinois Digital Partners Institute for innovation and technology. It seemed a love fest between Emanuel and Rauner.

Ceremonies launching the new U of I Technology Innovation center produced that rare moment of political enemies Bruce Rauner and Rahm Emanuel thanking each other.

Listen to the mayor: “I want to compliment Governor Rauner. He had this idea as a private citizen and I can attest to that. And to the governor, the City of Chicago says thank you.”

Then came the governor: “This idea has been talked about for at least 35 years. Mayor Emanuel has embraced it more enthusiastically than any other administration or leadership in the City of Chicago. Let’s give a round of applause to Mayor Emanuel for his leadership.”

Some are saying this project, along with a new state budget,  will help Rauner in his campaign to get re-elected in November.
