Some CPS students can earn Associate’s Degree before high school diploma

(CHICAGO)  Did you think you’ve got to graduate high school before you can graduate college? Not with one program here in Chicago.

It’s called the Jump Start for Jobs Initiative.  It’s a pathway for CPS  students to earn college level career credentials at no cost to them while they’re in high school.

Juan Salgado, the City Colleges Chancellor, told the City Club that this program actually got some students their city college associate’s degrees BEFORE they got their high school diplomas.

“Nineteen students who graduated this month with their high school diplomas and their associates degree,” says Salgado, “Ironically, our graduation is first so they got their associates degree before they got their high school diplomas! You know, in this world, many things are possible when people ideate and create.”
