Rauner signs gun order of protection, waiting period laws

(CHICAGO) Governor Rauner is signing two significant gun control bills, but says he’s again vowing to veto another.

Rauner signed the red flag bill that allows a judge to grant an order of protection to take away guns for six months from a mentally ill person. He also signed the 72-hour waiting period bill to purchase gun.

But vowed to again veto the latest gun dealer licensing bill if the Democrats send it to him, explaining, “That bill will not increase public safety. It will increase red tape and restrictions, an unnecessary burden on our small businesses in Illinois. I will veto that bill if and when it is sent to my desk.”

Rauner says he does want them to send him a ban on bump stocks and more money for school security officers. He says he’d sign those.
