Police shooting: Emanuel not taking a position

(CHICAGO) In the controversy over Saturday’s police killing of an armed black man, Mayor Emanuel is NOT taking a position on whether the shooting was justified.

Rahm says it’s “not time to characterize anything.”

“There’s a lot of questions,” the mayor added, “My view is as the mayor, COPA’s gonna do their job. All the questions you have are gonna get answered. You’re also gonna see it for yourself. I don’t think at this point while they’re doing that my energy is gonna be on characterizing something as much as helping all of us learn from this and learn for the future and hear each other.”

Also, it looks like we’re not going to get audio from the police body cam showing the gun in the waistband of the victim. Body cams have limited memory and so when an officer double taps his body cam to record an incident, it “buffers” the previous 30 seconds of video but not audio. Audio doesn’t kick in until the point of the double tap.
