City IG wants more power

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  In the continuing story of City Hall corruption, Inspector General Joe Ferguson would like new power.

At the City Club, Ferguson was asked if he’d like to have the power to audit the spending on city programs administered by the City Council. He has oversight of the conduct of the aldermen but not the spending on programs like workers comp, which Alderman Ed Burke’s Finance committee administers.

“That’s not a good thing,” says Ferguson, “It ends up being a dark space, a black box where hundreds of millions of dollars actually being expended with no oversight whatsoever. That’s not an acceptable situation.”

Workers comp alone is $100M a year.
