Lynn discusses Vice President Mike Pence’s recent trip to Chicago and what it means for Governor Rauner.

This week’s community spotlight segment is with Nick Gale.

Nick discusses the two gun bills that Gov. Bruce Rauner has signed into law.

The bills, which have bipartisan support, are part of the comprehensive public safety plan that the governor unveiled earlier this year. Rauner’s signature on HB 2354 enacts “red flag” legislation giving courts authority to use emergency civil restraining orders to disarm dangerous individuals;

Rauner also signed SB 3256, which enacts a 72-hour waiting period for the purchase of all guns in Illinois, not just hand guns.

At the press conference announcing the bill actions, Rauner urged legislators to get to work on other public safety legislation, including proposals that give schools the ability to hire more resource officers and mental health workers.
