Family may rebuild pyramid house

(WADSWORTH, Ill.) — After a fire caused some $3 million in damage at a pyramid home in suburban Wadsworth, the owners are thinking about rebuilding and are also warning of a fake “Go Fund Me” account.

Jim Onen Jr. tells Big John and Ramblin’ Ray on WLS, it’s possible he will rebuild.

“The main thing is if I do rebuild it I’ll probably turn it into some kind of veteran’s war memorial because my father was big on helping out the veterans. That was his goal,” Onen said. “He tried to donate it one time and that never happened but we’ll turn it into a charity place, make it a destination spot, a war memorial or something.”

As for a “Go Fund Me” account that has been making the rounds on social media, Onen says it is in no way associated with his family and essentially is a fake.

“I got some phone calls, somebody’s starting a “Go Fund Me” page. That doesn’t have [anything] to do with me or my family,” Onen said. “We don’t want that.”

The Gold Pyramid House was built in 1977 buy Onen’s father, Jim Onen, as a private residence but was later opened for public tours.

The six-story structure has a moat and contains a replica of King Tut’s tomb.
