(OAK PARK, IL) If you grew up in west suburban Oak Park there are some names you recognize: Ernest Hemingway, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Val Camilletti.

When the record store called “Val’s Halla” was on South Boulevard in the western suburb, Val often sat next to the register with her curly hair, flannels and t-shirts, and her dog somewhere nearby.

In 2006, the record store moved to a new location on Harrison Street and almost shutdown in 2012.

Val Camilletti died Tuesday, after a two year battle with breast cancer. She was 78.

Val’s Halla is scheduled to celebrate its 46th anniversary with its annual “Hallapalooza” event this weekend and employees say it will still take place.
