(EVANSTON, Ill.) — The former mayor of Evanston has died.
Lorraine Morton died on Saturday. The city’s first African American mayor, Morton was also the longest serving mayor, serving from 1993 – 2009. Before her term as mayor, Morton served as the Fifth Ward alderman of Evanston from 1982 – 1991.
On social media she is being remembered as a teacher, mentor and friend.
The North Carolina native and Northwestern graduate was 99.
